What's Your Galiano Arrival Story and Why Do You Call Galiano Home?

Rose will lead a workshop at the Yellow House at 11 am on July 18th to allow you to explore the stories that you tell about the place you call home. Whether you're a “newcomer”, a long-term resident, or an “Island Family”; whether you're here by deep design or perhaps simply by happenstance, your stories matter as a part of the mosaic that makes our community. Listening to others, you will hear about the histories you may not have been aware of and perhaps begin to identify what it is that makes a Galiano “Islander.”

Are we all perhaps Islomaniacs?

Laurence Durrell liked the term “Islomania” partly, one feels, tongue in cheek, as a description of the obsession or craze that afflicts certain people who are drawn to islands. Was it coincidence that Scotty Georgeson, born in Shetland, made another island his home?

There's lots to explore and learn! Come and join us. Bring your personal stories, your island lore, and your curiosity to the Yellow House!

Open Mic

On the afternoon of Sunday the 19th, the Literary Festival will hold an Open Mic session open to all the Festival readers as well as the audience, and this could be an opportunity to tell the stories that began in the workshop!

There will be no charge for the workshop, but a donation to the Galiano Island Literary Festival will of course be deeply appreciated.

This workshop will be a part of Rosemary Georgeson and Donna Usher's

ongoing “Islanders” Project which will take up the story of Galiano again in August.
