An Exciting Addition to the 2026 Galiano Literary Festival Schedule!

Free Generative Writing Workshop with novelist and short story writer Robin Mclean

Yellow House Arts Centre, Galiano Island July 19th, 11am

Galiano, you are very lucky! A free workshop with Galiano's Robin McLean. All levels of experience welcome.  "Generative" means bring your wild island mind, plus paper and pen or pencil. We are planning on having a lot of fun!

"Robin is just done serving as the William Kittredge Fellow for Fiction at the University of Montana, Missoula's' MFA Program in Creative Writing where she shows up from time to time. "

She's also taught at University of Massachusetts, and Montana Western, as well as community workshops in Chania, Crete and Prague. And now... The Yellow House, Galiano Island!

Praise for her novel Pity the Beast (2021): it was named in the New York Times as one of the 10 best books of the 21st century. 'Not since Faulkner have I read American prose so bristling with life and particularity.'   --J.M. Coetzee

Her Short Story collection “Get 'Em Young Treat 'Em Tough Tell 'Em Nothing” was NYTimes Editors' Choice, Nov., 2022 Her first collection, “Reptile House” was a Paris Review "Best Book of 2015" and the Winner of the BOA Short Fiction Prize.

Those of you attending Rosemary Georgeson's “Islanders” story telling workshop on July 18th might want to explore the writing possibilities they have found in the stories they have explored with Rosemary at Robin's workshop. And later in the afternoon of the 19th, at the Festival's Open Mic session, they might want to take their stories out for a spin in front of a (very supportive) audience. Just sayin'.
